The Indian Railways has one of the busiest railway networks in the world. With over 7,000 railway stations, the Railways facilitate the smooth operations of trains across the country carrying 30 million passengers and 2.8 million tonnes of freight everyday.

With the Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi promising to upgrade many stations with modern amenities, here's a look at some of the notable railway stations in India...

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Maharashtra)

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai is the busiest railway station in India. Headquarters of the Central Railway, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. It serves as a terminal for long distance trains and suburban railway services.
