The world's second largest computer-maker Dell on Tuesday said it is approaching $ 2 billion in annual revenue in India.

"Two billion dollars is the milestone that our India team is now working on," Dell Chief Executive Officer Michael Dell told reporters in New Delhi at a FICCI event.

He, however, did not give a timeframe for the target to be met, nor did he elaborate on the company's current annual revenue in India.

The company, which has 23,000 employees in India, also plans to add "few thousand" people.

Dell's business activities in the country include research and development and manufacturing in Sriperumbudur.

Dell notched up $ 61.49 billion in global revenues for the year ended December, 2010. Revenues from India, which is an important market for Dell, grew by 37 per cent.

While its consumer business in India grew by 41 per cent, Dell's small and medium businesses unit and public sector vertical grew by 52 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively.

Dell does not disclose country-specific numbers.
