Chandigarh happiest city in India, Guwahati least: Survey

The survey conducted by South Korean electronics firm LG showed, among the metros, people in Delhi are the happiest while those in Mumbai are the least happy.

The study added, "In the North, which is the happiest zone overall, Chandigarh is the happiest city and Jaipur is the least. In the East, which is overall the least happy zone, Patna is the happiest city and Guwahati the least."

Chandigarh is followed by Lucknow, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru in the top five slot.

According to the survey: "People of these cities are broadly happy with the amount of time they get to spend with family, and the quality of relationship they share with their friends and families. They are also happy with the kind of control they have over their lives with respect to doing what they want and taking decisions for themselves."

The bottom five slots were taken up by Guwahati, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kochi and Hyderabad.

Commenting on the survey, LG corporate marketing head Niladri Datta said: "In our 18th year of operation in India, we decided to get the survey conducted to understand our customers better. We might look at expanding the scope of the survey in more cities in the next edition."

The survey was conducted in 16 cities among an average sample of 150 people from all socio economic backgrounds.

LG India MD Soon Kwon said: "The findings of the study would help bring us closer to our customers and enable us to play an important role in their pursuit of happiness."
