Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), which witnessed labour unrest at its Manesar facility, is set to complete the process of regularisation of contract workers at the unit by November-end.
According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the two organisations, Maruti Suzuki India will sponsor executives every year for the part-time post-graduate diploma in management programme at IMI, the car-maker said.
In what seems to be a softening of stance, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has decided not to take any immediate steps to de-recognise the newly instituted Maruti Suzuki Workers' Union (MSWU) of the Manesar unit.
At a time when frequent labour unrests are plaguing the Indian auto industry, car market leader Maruti Suzuki was able to save about Rs 160 crore (Rs 1.6 billion) in 2010-11 by implementing suggestions given by its workers. "We have active engagement programmes going on in the company.
At present, MSI has a staff strength of 7,500 employees. Enrollment in the next fiscal will be higher than the 800 people recruited this fiscal by the company.
Despite the current economic slowdown in the auto industry, the country's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday said it will hire around 700 people in various departments in the next fiscal, even as it has raised its headcount by 745 in the current fiscal itself.
The auto-maker's total headcount is currently 7,200. "We plan to have a total employee strength of 7,350 by the year-end," Maruti Suzuki India Managing Executive Officer Administration (HR, Finance and IT) S Y Siddiqui said.
"We are training about 100 people in research and development area at Suzuki Japan. They have been sent to Japan for two years and would come back in batches between 2008-10," Maruti Suzuki India's executive director (HR) S Y Siddiqui told PTI.
The company adopted the scheme from parent Suzuki, where employees are rewarded for making suggestions to improve productivity and cut wastage.
