The House of Commons petitions committee has confirmed that 77,000 signatures were added fraudulently and have been removed.
The UK voted to leave the EU by 52 to 48 per cent in Thursday's referendum but the majority of voters in London, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed the Remain side in a 72 per cent turnout.
With signatures to the petition constantly rising, Labour MP David Lammy appealed to fellow MPs to ignore the result of the referendum on Friday which, he said, was only advisory.
