The Jayalalithaa government in Tamil Nadu on Friday scrapped another pet scheme of the Karunanidhi regime by ending free colour TV distribution on which over Rs 3,600 crore was spent in the past five years.
With this, the Maran family's cable TV network comes under government control.
The cable industry on Friday set a deadline of December 15 for implementing the much-delayed conditional access system in South Delhi zone.
The man who led this journey is 50-year-old Kalanithi Maran, chairman and managing director of the Sun Group.
