Following is the chronology of events in the murder case of Shashi Nath Jha, private secretary Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Chief Shibu Soren, in which he and four others were on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court.
As Shibu Soren hopes for yet another innings as Jharkhand chief minister, the family of his slain ex-secretary said on Saturday that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief should not be allowed to take up the job as the appeal against his acquittal in the murder case was pending before the Supreme Court.
The Delhi high court on Wednesday aquitted former Union minister Shibu Soren in the Shashi Nath Jha murder case.
Soren has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
The CBI, opposing the convicts' contention submitted that the arguments on the point of sentence might be heard in the absence of convicts and the court could reserve its order and pronounce the same as and when they appear before it.
A Delhi court had, on December 26, 2006, convicted Soren and four others for abduction and murder of Jha.
Additional Sessions Judge B R Kedia found Soren, who is also chief of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, guilty of kidnapping and hatching the conspiracy to kill his secretary.
