Amid talks of cross-voting, three of the 37 Congress MLAs in Maharashtra skipped a meeting called by the party ahead of the legislative council polls on Friday.

Former Congress Member of Legislative Assembly Sambhajirao Kunjir was beaten up by party workers belonging to the rival faction during the elections for the post of the Pune district Congress.It was a free-for-all in the Congress bhavan when workers, allegedly belonging to the Sanjay Jagtap group hailing from Punandar taluk, attacked Kunjir by hurling chairs at him. The scuffle broke out when efforts were being made to elect the party's Pune district president unanimously.
In a setback to the opposition Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra, the party could win only one of the four seats it held during the biennial elections held for six local bodies constituencies in the state legislative council.
