Former champions Dempo Sports Club started their I-League campaign in impressive style with a thumping 3-1 victory over a new-look Mumbai FC at Cooperage football ground in Mumbai on Saturday.
Ranty Martins scored once in each half to guide Dempo to a convincing 3-1 victory over Al Faisaly and a berth in the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup, at the Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa, on Tuesday. Dempo finished their league engagements in second place with ten points and became second team to enter the quarter-finals from the Group E. Al Maged, who lead the table with 10 points, were the first team to qualify for the knock-out stage.
Dempo conceded a last-minute goal against Al Muharraq of Bahrain and missed out on a chance to set one foot into the last 16 stage of the AFC Cup Group E football tournament, at the Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa, on Tuesday. Substitute Madhkoor headed home a well-directed cross by Leandson in the 90th minute to give Al Muharraq their first win and hand the hosts their first defeat.
