The Aligarh Muslim University was on Saturday shut down indefinitely following violent clashes between two rival groups of students that left nearly 12 of them injured. Members of the two groups opened fire and pelted bricks in the university campus on Friday night. "The AMU has been closed sine die in the early hours of today following a faction feud between two groups," AMU spokesman Rahat Abrar said. Police sources said that nearly 12 people have been injured.
All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi will interact with the students of Aligarh Muslim University during his two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh starting on December 7.This will be Gandhi's first visit to AMU.Nearly 800 students selected from various faculties, residential halls and schools affiliated with the AMU will also attend the event."Rahul will motivate students to pursue higher education," Abrar said.
