Shivakumar, who was declared guilty by a Bangalore fast track court for the rape and murder of Pratibha Murthy, an employee of the Hewlett-Packard run business process outsourcing arm, was given a life term till death on Friday.
The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the prosecution of Som Mittal, chief of National Association of Software and Service Companies in the Pratibha Murthy murder case.
Sanjay Hegde, the Karnataka counsel in the Supreme Court, said that this is the maximum punishment Mittal could attract if found guilty.
