On Wednesday night, Goswami was taken for medical examination at a state-run hospital in the coastal town, the official said. After the medical exam, he was taken to Alibaug Nagar Parishad School, which is designated as a COVID-19 centre of the Alibaug prison, and he spent the night there, the official said.
A Mumbai court on Thursday acquitted 12 people who were accused in the 1992-93 Mumbai riot cases, citing lack of evidence.
Those held guilty were -- Bashir Ahmed Usman Ghani Khairullah, Zakir Hussain Noor Mohammed Shaikh, Abdul Khan, Feroze Amani Malik, Moin Querishi and Salim Rahim Shaikh.
The judge observed that although they were not part of the inner circle of the conspiracy, their participation in training camps and their consent to go to Pakistan for arms training suggested their active involvement.
The police had sought Goswami's custody for 14 days, but the court held that custodial interrogation was not required. After the court remanded Goswami in judicial custody, his lawyers Aabad Ponda and Gaurav Parkar filed an application seeking bail.
The special TADA court sentenced Gul Mohammad to six years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 15,000.
