Describing E Sreedharan as a man of great vision and impeachable integrity, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said the Metro Man, who retires on Saturday, gave Delhi a "new identity" for which people of the city will always miss him.
Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party chief K Surendran said the BJP's central leadership alone will decide on the party's chief ministerial candidate.
Known for implementing projects with precision, Sreedharan is critical of private developers and warns against their raising claims on the government in future.
"Metro Man" E Sreedharan has emphasised integrity, punctuality and professional competence are vital factors for undertaking any major infrastructure project to avoid cost overruns.
He also said that the focus will be on developing infrastructure in a big way and bring the state out of the debt trap if the BJP wins the assembly polls that are likely to be held in April-May this year.
With Suresh Prabhu taking over, the Railways has initiated a number of steps to bring about efficiency with former Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan also being roped in as part of this process.
A day after the state government's intervention, the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday said that 'Metro man' E Sreedharan has been included in the list of dignitaries who will share the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Kochi Metro inauguration on June 17.
Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan, credited with changing the face of public transport in the Indian capital, is on the 'top 25 newsmakers of 2005' list compiled by the United States' Engineering News-Record.
Set to retire on December 31, Delhi Metro chief Elattuvalapil Sreedharan sums up his 16-year experience as a 'very satisfying' and attributes the organisation's success to the 'different work culture' and fast decision-making process.
