Three people were killed and a portion of a major highway was washed away in a cloudburst that struck Baggar village of Doda district in Jammu region late on Wednesday. Pawan Kotwal, divisional commissioner of Jammu, told rediff.com that rescue efforts were going on in the area to recover the victims' bodies and repair the road.He said the cloudburst washed away several shops and vehicles. It has cut off the twin hilly districts of Doda and Kishtwar, said Kotwal.

A Central Reserve Police Force jawan-turned-militant and another ultra were arrested and a cache of arms recovered from them in Kishtwar and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Thursday. Acting on a tip off, security forces raided a hideout of the CRPF-jawan-turned-militant of Hizbul Mujahideen, Khalik Hussain, in Patidhar village of Poonch district. Khalik had served in the 84th battalion of the CRPF before he was dismissed and jailed.

The two-day-long rescue operation ended on Friday evening in hilly Kishtwar district of Jammu region where eleven persons were killed when two trucks carrying Border Roads Organisation labourers were trapped in a massive landslide early on Thursday. While the rescue teams recovered bodies of seven labourers on Thursday, they finally managed to retrieve the bodies of other four dead labourers on Friday.
