Michael Schumacher fans were crushed when his engine and title hopes went up in smoke.
They attended a discreet ceremony, with a few relatives and no public, in the small western German town of Kerpen.
The German driver can celebrate his 50th win for Ferrari on Sunday as the first Formula One driver to score 1,000 points.
"My mother and father made it possible to do what we do and she would have wanted that we did this race today."
Hamilton said he only realised the significance of what he had done when he came into the pitlane after taking the chequered flag.
Seven times world champion Michael Schumacher took his last win with Ferrari in China in 2006. He has not appeared in public since he suffered severe head injuries in a 2013 skiing accident.
