India-born fashion designer Anand Jon, convicted for sexually assaulting upcoming models, was on Tuesday permitted by a California court to defend himself.Anand, 35, has been convicted by the California court for sexually assaulting upcoming models and now faces a sentence of as many as 162 years of imprisonment. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 31.

Indian-born fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander, convicted last year of raping and sexually assaulting aspiring models as young as 14-years-old, was sentenced to a minimum of 59 years in prison on Monday by a Los Angeles court.Before delivering the sentence, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Wesley denied Jon's motions for a new trial.Prosecutors had asked for the 34-year-old designer to be given the maximum possible sentence.

A judge has denied a request for a new trial for Indian-born fashion designer Anand Jon. His lawyers asked for a new trial on the basis of juror misconduct, saying a juror had improperly contacted Jon's sister. Reacting to the ruling, Jon said, "This is a total travesty of justice".On November 14, 2008, a 12-member jury at the Los Angeles Superior Court had found the fashion designer guilty of sexually assaulting seven women.
