The Gujarat government on Monday informed the high court that they have issued a notification for the formation of a new Special Investigation Team to probe the encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and three others. A division bench of Justices A M Kapadia and B N Mehta, after the submission of the government pleader, disposed of the contempt of court petition filed by one Gopinath Pillai.
The Gujarat High Court on Friday directed the Union home secretary to give names of at least three police officers who could be considered to be part of the Special Investigation Team that might probe the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
A division bench of the Gujarat high court on Thursday issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation and the state government in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case.The court began hearing the case after the Supreme Court on April 19 asked it to constitute a division bench, while acting on the petitions filed by Gopinath Pillai, father of Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, who was one of the three persons killed along with Ishrat.
Father of one of the persons killed in a police encounter in 2004 along with Ishrat Jahan on Friday filed an application in the Gujarat High Court demanding that hearing on his pending plea seeking Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry in the case begin at the earliest.
Father of Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, one of the four persons allegedly killed in an encounter in Gujarat in 2004, on Tuesday hailed the judicial inquiry report that said they were victims of a 'fake encounter'."I always believed that the truth will be known one day," Javed's father Gopinatha Pillai told PTI from his home at Charaummood in Aalappuzha District, reacting to the findings of the investigation conducted by Magistrate S P Tamang.
