If India's queen of herbal beauty products Shahnaz Husain was the most conspicuous at the Presidential Entrepreneurial Summit hosted by President Barack Obama, Irfan Alam, popularly known as the 'rickshaw man from Bihar' and 'Business Baazigar' for his innovative idea of empowering rickshaw pullers all across India and transforming it into a business model, was the most garrulous.
"I could not bring the rickshaw for the US President due to logistics problem," a disappointed Irfan Alam told PTI at a reception hosted by Indian Embassy in Washington in honour of six Indian entrepreneurs invited by Obama to the summit that concluded in Washington on Wednesday.
Only last year US President Barack Obama praised 'Sammaan Foundation' founder Irfan Alam for his endeavour to create jobs for unskilled people by manufacturing special rickshaws but he was shocked the way he was arrested, beaten, abused after being implicated in a criminal case by the Bihar police.
United States Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer took everyone by surprise in Patna on Friday when he hopped on the rider's seat of a rickshaw while on a visit to a local foundation.Roemer rode a rickshaw during his visit to meet Irfan Alam, the director of SammaaN Foundation, which works for a better standard of life for rickshaw riders."I rode a rickshaw to know more about the experiences of a rickshaw rider. It was an amazing experience," said a smiling Roemer.
