India and Russia held discussions on the possibility of cooperation in space exploration, including missions to the moon and Mars. Russia's head of Federal Space Agency met the Indian Space Research Organisation chairman.
China will launch its maiden mission to moon in November, a third major event in the Chinese space programme after the launch of a satellite and amanned space mission.
The United States aims to put a man on Mars by 2037 and build a space civilisation. "We have a long-term plan to put a man on Mars by 2037," Administrator of National Aeronautics and Space Administration Michael Griffin said.
Highlighting the achievements of ISRO, he said the organization, which had modest beginnings several decades ago, is trying to establish itself as the leading player in the area of satellite launches.
India and the United States, after sending their own respective spacecraft into Mars' orbit, have now agreed to cooperate on future explorations of the Red Planet, which America said will yield "tangible benefits" to both the countries and the world at large.
