A Parliamentary Panel has taken exception to the fee hike by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and asked as to why IIMs should raise their fees without waiting for the report of the Bhargava Committee, set up to review functioning of the institutes. The Bhargava Committee under Maruti Udyog Limited Chairman R C Bhargava was appointed in October 2007 to submit a review of functioning of IIMs within six months. Review would include existing fee structure in IIMs.

The government has said it would implement the Supreme Court verdict on the OBC quota and does not want to seek a review of the judgment. Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh sought to mollify allies upset over the exclusion of creamy layer, stating the government as also the United Progressive Alliance favoured reservation benefits for the creamy layer. Singh steered clear of the demands by allies, including the DMK, for a fair and just review of the verdict.
