A 35-year-old woman, allegedly locked up in a room by her parents for about four years, was rescued by police from her residence in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Stepping up pressure on the Cauvery water issue, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday said it was "absolutely" essential on the part of the Centre to put in place a monitoring mechanism to ensure that the state gets its rightful share of water during the year.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, there would be heavy rain for the next 24 hours in coastal areas, in the northern and in the interior parts of the south.
The water was being released from Kabini reservoir.
Siddaramaiah added that all efforts would be made to provide drinking water to Bengaluru and other places as also for crops.
