Health minister Nicola Roxon said on Monday that although no cases had yet surfaced in Australia, a case was likely to arise in coming days. However, president of the Pharmacy Guild Kos Sclavos said overseas travellers with prescriptions were driving demand because doctors appeared to be telling patients to travel with the drugs in case they fall ill with flu symptoms.

A maximum of 33 cases were reported from Tamil Nadu, while Delhi reported 15, Karnataka reported 18, Maharashtra reported 21 and Uttar Pradesh reported 30 caess of H1N1 virus.

Deceased Stanley Pelis, who arrived in Kerala two weeks ago from the United Kingdom, had died of viral pneumonia, said director of Health Services Dr K Shyalaja.The patient, who hails from Kollam, was suffering from viral fever,she said.

India recorded its first case of swine flu, with a 23-year-old man who flew from New York to Hyderabad testing positive for the virus. The World Health Organisation noted on Thursday international pandemic alert remains at phase 5, on a six-level warning scale, as the number of laboratory confirmed cases rose to 2,099 up by 441 from Wednesday including 44 deaths. Twenty-three countries have reported influenza A(H1N1) infections, with Mexico reporting 1,112 cases and 42 deaths, and the United States confirming 642 cases and two deaths.
