The editor-in-chief of the local television news channel, which had videographed the molestation of a girl outside a pub in Guwahati, on Tuesday resigned after expressing doubts over impartial enquiry into the allegations that a journalist had instigated the incident.
Right to Information activist Akhil Gogoi on Saturday alleged that a journalist -- who filmed the molestation of a girl in Guwahati on Monday night on his mobile -- had 'instigated' it, but the news channel he belonged to denied the accusation as 'baseless'.
Frequently under attack from various elements while discharging their duty in the troubled state, Assam journalists have called upon the government and all the political parties to take steps to enact a special law for protection of media persons on duty. It was decided at a meeting of various journalists unions at the Guwahati Press Club.
Leader of Krishak Mukti Sanram Samity and a Right To Information activist Akhil Gogi was arrested on Friday afternoon from Guwahati Press Club while addressing a press conference on charges of 'instigating' violence on the streets near the Assam's capital complex in Dispur on June 22 during a mass agitation against drive to evict illegal settlers from forest land, wetlands and hills in and around Guwahati city.
Raising anti-ULFA slogans, the protestors went through several busy streets.
