England have named a provisional 30-man squad for the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.
Chapple was returning to his club, Lancashire, for treatment and would be replaced by Worcestershire's Kabir Ali, the ECB said in a statement.
Batsman Anthony McGrath was dropped from the squad.
