America's top commander in Afghanistan, Gen Stanley A McChrystal, and his advisors have reportedly ridiculed United States Vice President Joe Biden, President Barack Obama's Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard C Holbrooke and the US Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry.
Supporting United States General McChrystal's plan to send additional troops to Afghanistan, a former American general on Wednesday told the US lawmakers that there should be no Afghan 'exit strategy' till the Al Qaeda leadership currently based in Pakistan is eliminated.
Amid reports that the US has quietly approved an additional deployment of some 13,000 troops to Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday said more US troops are welcome in his country.
"We will know by the end of December 2010 whether or not the approach that General McChrystal (the top US commander in Afghanistan) has discussed in terms of securing population centres is meeting its objectives," Obama said. "And if the approach that's been recommended doesn't work then, yes, we're gonna be changing approaches."
