The two-year-old Lakshmi Tatma, who underwent a successful complicated surgery to separate her from a conjoined parasitic twin at a superspeciality hospital about 10 weeks ago, was discharged on Saturday.
Two days after separating two-year-old girl Lakshmi from her parasitic conjoined twin in a complex surgery, doctors on Friday took her off from ventilator, achieving yet another milestone in her path to recovery.
They wanted to build a temple for her. Lakshmi, who was born recently at Araria village in Bihar, was treated as a goddess thanks to the fact that she has two bodies united at the pelvis.
Dr Sharan Patil and his team of doctors, who performed the marathon 27-hour surgery, said Lakshmi was given milk for the first time after the surgery. Doctors said Lakshmi was sleeping well and responding positively to the treatment.
The Sparsh Hospital, which had performed the complex and one of the rare surgeries free of cost, has created a separate Intensive Care Unit for the child and drafted a medical team exclusively to monitor her health condition round-the-clock.
