Sasikiran went down to Zahar Efimenko of Ukraine in Group 'B' while Abhijeet lost to Anish Giri in a Group 'C' match. Harika kept herself in contention for a GM-norm, displaying fine attacking chess against Howell.

Grandmaster and World junior champion Abhijeet Gupta scored a thumping victory over tournament leader Tiger Hillarp Persson of Sweden in the sixth round of 'C' group in the Corus International chess tournament in Wijk Aan Zee, The Netherlands. After beating one of the co-leaders, Manuel Bosboom, in the previous round, Abhijeet was a class act yet again as he outplayed Persson, who played white.

Tata Steel and Anil Ambani-led& Reliance Communications raised $1.375 billion through overseas borrowings and convertible bonds in September, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India. Tata Steel, which early this year acquired Anglo-Dutch firm Corus to become the sixth-largest maker of the alloy, raised $875 million for overseas acquisition through foreign currency convertible bonds.

Tata is in talks with Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer for starting a joint venture for production of aircraft. The aircraft maker is unable to cope up with the orders that it was getting from various countries and private players. Tata had offered setting up of a joint venture with the aircraft giant, which is the only manufacturing firm that makes commercial 120-seater jets. Talks are in the infancy stage but Tata, is a serious contender for the joint venture.

Tata Motors has acquired Ford's British marquees Jaguar and Land Rover for $2.30 billion in an all cash deal, sealing a deal that it pursued for nine months. Profit in the three months ended September 30, excluding unit Corus, rose to Rs 1,787.81 crore (Rs 17.87 billion) from from Rs 1,190.83 crore (Rs 11.9 billion). Prices per tonne of steel may fall by as much as Rs 4,000 by December, said Koushik Chatterjee, chief financial officer. Demand from makers of trucks and buses have fallen, while supplies to cars and other light vehicle have remained flat.
