Calling CBI 'Congress Bureau of Investigation', Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Monday accused the agency of "conspiring" against officers and ministers of his state at the behest of their political masters.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday accused the Congress of using the Sohrabuddin encounter case to promote its vote bank politics ahead of the Bihar assembly polls. BJP chief Nitin Gadkari told journalists that his party was ready to legally and politically fight the case filed against former Gujarat minister Amit Shah. "The BJP will face the legal challenge presented by the fabricated prosecution in a court of law." he said.
The BJP termed the controversy, which has erupted just two days before the third-phase of the general elections, as Congress ka haath Quattrocchi ke saath (Congress is hand-in-hand with Quattrocchi).
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday alleged that the arrest of former Uttar Pradesh minister Babu Singh Kushwaha in connection with the National Rural Health Mission was an example of the Congress misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation to serve its ends. Kushwaha, who was the family welfare minister in Chief Minister Mayawati's cabinet, is one of the prime accused in the Rs 8,000-crore NRHM scam. He was arrested on Saturday by the CBI.
Party members of the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular staged a dharna in the Karnataka legislative assembly on Tuesday, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the alleged 'kickbacks' received by a trust run by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's sons, in return for Government favours. Congress leader Siddaramaiah also demanded Yeddyurappa's resignation.
The government will work towards "restoring" the credibility of the Central Bureau of Investigation and it will be given functional autonomy to ensure complete independence in its operations, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Tuesday.
