The anti-government protesters in Sri Lanka on Sunday continued to occupy the residences of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, a day after they stormed into the premises and set on fire one of the buildings protesting over the nation's severe economic crisis even as the island nation is still in the dark about the embattled President's whereabouts.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has been accused by the Opposition of inciting the ruling party mobs to attack peaceful protesters by making a defiant speech while addressing several thousands of his supporters to deflect calls for his resignation.
A senior Sri Lankan journalist, known for his anti-government views, was kidnapped and brutally beaten up near his house in the Colombo suburb of Nugegoda, stated a BBC report on Tuesday.Poddala Jayanth, the general secretary of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association, is a vocal campaigner for freedom of the media, said the report.Jayanth is currently recovering at the Colombo National Hospital. His assailants remain unidentified, said the BBC.
At least four people, including two military personnel were killed and 23 others injured when a powerful bomb went off in Colombo on Wednesday, targeting a bus carrying army personnel, defence and hospital sources said.
