A TMC MP was allegedly attacked and a CISF jawan was shot in separate incidents of violence in southern West Bengal, ahead of the second phase of elections. The incidents have sparked political accusations and investigations.
A CISF jawan was injured in a firing incident outside the residence of BJP candidate Pawan Singh in West Bengal, prompting an Election Commission report. The incident occurred amidst tensions between TMC and BJP supporters, with both parties trading accusations of instigating violence.
CISF constable Suresh Gaikwad, 28, a native of Maharashtra, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at 9 am, Deputy Commissioner of Police North East, Dr P S Harsha said.
The CISF headquarters in Delhi said any issue related to service leave had nothing to do with the jawan taking the extreme step.
The accused jawan is alleged to have snatched the weapon from his colleague and emptied the entire magazine.
CISF has ordered an inquiry into the incident and claimed that Meena took the extreme step because of personal reasons and not work-related stress.
