To ensure spectators at matches that do not feature the host nations, Tournament Director of next year's cricket World Cup in the sub-continent, Ratnakar Shetty, said the ticket prices would be kept nominal.
The 2011 World Cup, to be held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will be officially launched in Mumbai on July 14, 2009 with the bigwigs of the International Cricket Council in attendance.
Mumbai will house the 2011 World Cup secretariat and India will host 29 of the 49 matches after the event's Central Organising Committee on Tuesday reallocated the games following the International Cricket Council's decision to drop Pakistan as a co-host of the tournament. Accordingly, the opening match of the 10th edition of the quadrennial tournament would be held as scheduled in Bangladesh on February 19, 2011, while the final would be held in India.
Aware of the turmoil in Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday asked organisers of the 2011 World Cup to consider shifting venues to another city, even to another country, if situation so demands. ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat said the turmoil in Pakistan is a "consideration" for the governing body which asked the organisers to consider alternate venues in case of an emergency. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will jointly host the event.
The Central Organising Committee (COC) of the 2011 World Cup on Tuesday recommended India to host eight of the 14 matches that were earlier allotted to Pakistan.
