Indian-American fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander, facing a 59-year jail term in California for sexually abusing aspiring models, was sentenced to five years in prison by a federal court in New York for molesting a woman whom he allegedly lured on promise of modelling work.

India-born celebrity fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander, sentenced to 59 years in prison for sexually assaulting aspiring models, has told a court in New York that he was a pauper.The 36-year-old fashion designer, who has worked with celebrities like Paris Hilton, said he was broke."I've been incarcerated since 2007," Alexander whined to Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers on Wednesday, during a hearing on charges that he sexually assaulted nine women.
Indian-born fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander, convicted last year of raping and sexually assaulting aspiring models as young as 14-years-old, was sentenced to a minimum of 59 years in prison on Monday by a Los Angeles court.Before delivering the sentence, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Wesley denied Jon's motions for a new trial.Prosecutors had asked for the 34-year-old designer to be given the maximum possible sentence.
Jon will be appearing in person in Los Angeles Superior Court in Beverly Hills on April 4 for arraignment.
The indictment includes all 18 victims from an earlier complaint along with two additional victims. Three of the counts involve a victim in Santa Barbara County. Of the 20 alleged victims, seven are from California. The rest are from eight states and two countries.
Jon pleaded not guilty to all charges in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to media reports.
In all, 15 of the charges are felonies and five are misdemeanors.
A judge in California had set a bail for US$ 2.1 million, but the New York district attorney has sent an arrest warrant seeking his continued detention even if he posts the bail, the prosecutors said. Alexander, who has worked with several celebrities, was charged with rape, aggravated sexual abuse and related crimes. Several of the alleged victims came to Alexander looking for modeling assignments or other job opportunities.
Thirty three-year-old Alexander, who was first arrested by the Beverly Hills Police on March 6, now faces 46 felonies and misdemeanours charges.
The Beverly Hills police said that they had sufficient information to warrant an arrest.
