HSMP Forum, which supports and assists skilled workers in the United Kingdom, has claimed that British immigration officials humiliate, harass and abuse highly skilled Indian workers returning from foreign trips.
In a statement, Amit Kapadia, executive director of the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme Forum said the changes effected from Tuesday were unfair. "The three-fold increase in the fees for settlement visas of dependent relatives is unjustified and very unfair," he said.
An influential group representing professionals from India and other non-European Union states on Monday said an annual cap on migration from non-EU countries will be "unworkable" and subject to challenge in courts.
Over 5,000 highly skilled migrants, most of them Indians, left Britain following the changes that were challenged in the high court. The court ruled on April 8 this year that the November 2006 changes could not be applied retrospectively.
