Networking giant Cisco Systems on Monday said it has frozen the hiring process and is adopting a wait and watch policy due to the global slowdown besides cutting costs up to $2 billion through various means. Cisco is adopting a wait and watch policy of 6-8 weeks before taking any decisions. It also plans to cuts costs up to $2 billion through measures like slashing travel costs.
Cisco and Satyam had entered into a joint venture in 2007 to focus on healthcare management solutions. As a part of this announcement, Cisco had also lined up an additional investment of $100 million, targeting innovation.
Cisco's current headcount in India is 7,000.
Cisco Systems Executive V-P and Chief Globalisation Officer Wim Elfrink said this after inaugurating a global delivery centre set up jointly by Cisco and Pune-based Zensar Technologies. Elaborating Cisco's future expansion plans in India, he added, "More than 20 per cent of Cisco's overall employee strength is based in India. The broadband penetration and networking infrastructure are very poor in this country.
Cisco Systems is planning to shift 20 per cent of its senior management to the company's upcoming Globalisation Centre East in Bangalore.
The foundation for a Digital India will be intelligent networks.
