The Karnataka high court on Tuesday struck down the appointment of Justice Chandrashekaraiah, the Upa Lokayukta. Justice N Kumar and Justice Kempanna observed that due process was not followed while appointing the Upa Lokayukta.
The Supreme Court on Friday set aside the appointment of Justice (retd) Chandrashekaraiah as upa lokayukta of Karnataka on the ground that he was appointed by the government without consultation with the chief justice of Karnataka high court.
Justice (retd) Chandrashekaraiah's appointment as Karnataka Upa (deputy) Lokayukta was on Friday set aside by the Supreme Court which held that the chief minister had committed an 'error' by not consulting the chief justice of the state high court in the selection process.
The word 'consultation' can have only one meaning, be it Gujarat judgement, Karnataka judgement or any other judgement in rest of the country, notes Arun Jaitley.
