Rejecting a plea for death penalty, Delhi High Court on Friday enhanced the sentence for Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal from life imprisonment to 25 years without remission for the murder of Nitish Katara and 5 more years for destruction of evidence in the case.
The apex court bench, comprising Justices J S Khehar and Adarsh Kumar Goel, heard senior lawyers including U R Lalit for almost two hours before saying that the high court order "does not call for" any intervention.
The SC also sentenced Sukhdev Pehalwan to 20 years.
Rejecting the plea for death penalty, the apex court in its order said, 'It's just a murder; that's it.'
Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed Vikas Yadav's plea seeking three weeks "custody parole" to file appeal in Supreme Court against his conviction and sentence of 30 years without remission in the Nitish Katara murder case.
Vikas, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, had sought three-months parole to visit his 93-year-old grandfather who has undergone an angioplasty.
