Srinagar gears up for its first multiplex cinema which will be inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Shivpora Indiranagar in Srinagar.
The multiplex will have three movie theatres with a combined seating capacity of approximately 520 people.
Aamir Khan's Lal Singh Chaddha was the first film screened at the Srinagar cinema.
The mood was subdued with roads deserted across large swathes of the Valley, the silence broken only by police sirens and Indian Air Force helicopters hovering overhead.
The Valley, which was brought under a virtual curfew with communication networks snapped on August 5 after the government abrogated special status to Jammu and Kashmir, has seen little difference in the last seven weeks as public transport is still not available and schools waiting for students to collect assignments.
Water levels have started receding in Srinagar and telecommunication has been restored in parts of the city after it faced the worst floods in decades.
Over 150 people have been killed and lakhs have been stranded in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been hit by the worst floods in five decades.
Thousands of defence personnel are working overtime to rescue lakhs of people still stranded in the floods in Jammu and Kashmir.
