The accident took place when a bus carrying a marriage party fell into a 40-feet deep pond in Kamrup (rural) district after the wooden bridge it was crossing gave in.
At least 26 passengers, including ten women, were killed when a bus carrying a marriage party plunged into a pond in Kamrup district of Assam, the police said on Tuesday. The bus, carrying nearly 40 passengers from Guwahati to Dihu in Rangia sub-division of the district, fell into the 40 feet deep pond on Monday night when a wooden bridge it was crossing gave in. The accident occurred at Rajabari on Hajo-Guwahati road. Among the victims were the bridegroom Naba Kumar Sarma.
