Pakistan on Tuesday threatened to pull back its troops from the border with Afghanistan, as Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said his country could not afford to keep forces deployed there following the suspension of US military assistance.

Seeking to cement its close defence ties with Islamabad, China today agreed to provide four trainer aircraft and US $ 9 million to Pakistan to train its armed forces. The two countries signed agreements to implement decisions made during a meeting between Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and his Chinese counterpart General Liang Guangile in Islamabad.

With suspicion growing stronger about the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists in the Mumbai attacks, Islamabad on Thursday night said that it had no role in the strikes and there should be no knee-jerk reaction by India."Pakistan played no role in the Mumbai attacks," Defence Minister Chaudhry Mukhtar Ahmad said as investigators in Maharashtra suggested that Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba could be involved in the unprecedented strike.
