The move follows the recent probe report by the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) that highlighted safety concerns involving Boeing 737 aircraft equipped with Collins Aerospace SVO-730 Rudder Rollout Guidance Actuators.
With the fog disrupting flights in the northern region early this winter, the Airports Authority of India on Friday said it was in the process of upgrading its Instrument Landing System from CAT (category) III-A to III-B "very shortly".
The certification will enable Vistara to safely operate under low visibility conditions due to fog or any other poor weather conditions, which is anticipated in the north-east and northern parts of the country typically during the year-end and the beginning of the year, the airline said in a release.
"The new aircraft have anti-fog devices, but installing these in older planes is costly," the Airports Authority of India sources said.
The large scale diversion on the night of January 5-6 was mainly because of these aircraft being operated by pilots not trained on Category-III Instrument Landing System, DGCA sources said.
Scindia claimed Tharoor is "lost in his esoteric world of thesaurus", and for him "data mining of selective press articles from the internet qualifies as "research".
This upgrade will allow air operations by military and civil aircraft even in poor visibility and adverse weather conditions.
