South Africa-born former England all-rounder Basil D'Oliveira, once the subject of one of cricket's biggest controversies, has died at 80, Cricket South Africa said on Saturday.
Basil D'Oliveira, the South Africa-born all-rounder whose selection in an England team to visit his native land changed the course of history, died at the age of 80 on Saturday after a long battle against Parkinson's disease.
Cricket SA (CSA) has praised the Proteas' squad for back-to back Test series victories in England to become the No 1 ranked Test side and retain the Basil d'Oliveira Trophy.
The former England captain said that both sides must address the fragility in their batting orders, with England too dependent on captain Alastair Cook and Joe Root and the hosts relying on Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers.
