The Gujarat high court has suspended the life sentence of Shiva Solanki, an accused in the 2010 murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa, and granted him bail pending hearing of his appeal against his conviction by a CBI court.
Observing that the trial court conducted proceedings with a "predetermined notion of conviction", a division bench of Justices AS Supehia and Vimal K Vyas quashed the CBI court's order sentencing Solanki and the six others to life imprisonment.
Shiva Solanki, nephew of Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Dinu Solanki was on Tuesday arrested from near the Rajkot airport in connection with the murder of Right To Information activist and green crusader Amit Jethwa in Ahmedabad, police said.
