India logged 37,593 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased marginally to 3,22,327, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday.
India reported more than 88.82 lakh (8.82 million) coronavirus infections in May alone during the raging second wave of COVID-19, accounting for 31.67 percent of the over 2.8 crore (28 million) cases reported in the country so far and making it the worst month of the pandemic.
The active cases have further reduced to 22,28,724 with a decline of 1,14,428 cases being recorded in the active caseload. It now comprises 8.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 90.80 per cent.
