IIM Ahmedabad Director Samir K Barua says, a straight comparison of IITs and IIMs with global institutes, without accounting for the impact of the ownership on performance would be unfair.
When Samir K Barua took over as the director of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) in November 2007, he had listed knowledge creation, hiring and retention of faculty members and increasing contacts with the industry as his priority work areas. Four months on, Barua is planning a number of initiatives in the upcoming academic year towards achieving his objectives.
Faculty crunch, infrastructure development and funding are were the 'major impediments' faced by the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A), said its new director Samir K Barua.
While chits and the formal financial sector are not 'largely substitutable', users like the commitment to savings that these enforce and the flexibility in borrowing, reports N Sundaresha Subramanian from New Delhi.
The study says living in joint families negatively impacted the level of financial knowledge.
