As part of the nation's ambitious programme of manned space flights, Indian Space Research Organisation is seeking a Russian spaceship for sending "space tourists" in orbit, an official said.
India would launch its first manned space flights by sending two astronauts in an orbit in a Russian spaceship in 2013, according to reports.
Russia on Thursday marked the golden jubilee of the launch of the first artificial satellite Sputnik, which sparked off a space race between the then Communist state and the US 50 years ago.
There appears to be uncertainty over availability of a lander from Russia even as the 'desi' rocket to launch the space odyssey would take time to become operational.
