The Allahabad high court on Friday stayed the Uttar Pradesh government's order to withdraw cases against persons accused of indulging in terror activities.
In a reprieve from Tuesday's harsh order of arrest for allegedly committing contempt of court, Uttar Pradesh Principal Home Secretary R M Srivastava got a reprieve when a division bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday stayed the operation of the single-bench.
The Allahabad high court on Thursday stayed with immediate effect caste-based rallies throughout Uttar Pradesh, while issuing notices to central and state governments, the Election Commission and four major political parties. "We stay caste-based rallies throughout the state of UP," the Lucknow bench of the court comprising justices Uma Nath Singh and Mahendra Dayal said on a PIL filed by a local lawyer Motilal Yadav.
The Uttar Pradesh government cannot withdraw prosecution in terror cases under the central acts without the permission of the Centre, the Allahabad high court held on Thursday.
