The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has opened vaccination booking slots for all adults from Friday evening.
Such persons are expected to obtain the advice of their doctor before deciding to avail of the precaution dose or third dose.
The Centre has said that on-site registration for COVID-19 inoculation for healthcare and frontline workers aged 18 to 44 years will now only be available at government COVID vaccination centres.
The Centre wrote to Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi governments on Wednesday flagging below-par vaccination of eligible beneficiaries, including healthcare workers.
Harsh Vardhan said that 51 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses will be made available by July and 216 crore more between August and December.
Six states and UTs have reported no new case in the last 24 hours
Maharashtra and Kerala alone account for 67.84 per cent of total active cases, it said.
The World Health Organisation has said that the death toll attributed to the Ebola outbreak has risen above 4,000.
"Coming festivals (Chhat, Puja, Dussehra, Deepavali, Id, Xmas, New year) pose a huge challenge in the pandemic control. It has been seen that Onam in Kerala and Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra escalated the pandemic seriously. This must not be allowed to happen in Delhi," the report stated.
