After the controversy over pricing of gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin, the Ambani brothers are locked in another court battle.
The battle between the Ambani brothers flared up again today -- this time over the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group's (ADAG's) bid to seal a merger deal with South African telecom company, MTN.
Justice A P Deshpande, who is hearing the petition by Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Transport and Travels Ltd staking claim over a lease of land for hangar, adjourned the hearing after its counsel sought time to inspect the documents on the lease agreement entered between Reliance Industries and Airport Authority of India. "We want to inspect the correspondence by RIL and file a rejoinder," advocate for RTTL Cyrus Bharucha told the court.
The Bombay high court on Monday suggested that the warring Ambani brothers could approach an independent body to resolve their dispute relating to supply of natural gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin. "The MoU is not able to resolve the issue and we would suggest both the parties to approach an independent body for the same," observed justice J N Patel.
In another twist to the feud between the Ambani brothers, the younger sibling Anil's Group is understood to have filed a defamation suit for a whopping Rs 10,000 crore (Rs 100 billion) against elder Mukesh Ambani for remarks purported to have been made by him in an interview with the New York Times several weeks ago.
The Ambani brothers are not yet ready to bury the hatchet. Legal counsels of both the parties say they are ready to fight it out in the court next week. The case is scheduled to come up for hearing on 12 January.
