Ethiopia, long-distance champions of the world, kept the tradition alive when they claimed the first two positions in a very tight race in the women's 10,000m event at the World Athletics Championship in Paris on Saturday.

Berhane Adere, 30, won the gold in 30:04.18, a new championship record.

But the battle for silver was a very close one with Werknesh Kidane, 22, of Ethiopia, who posted a personal best of 30:07.15, winning by a mere five hundredths of a second.

China's Sun Yingjie, 25, claimed the bronze with a timing of 30:07.20, which was her personal best.
