Dronacharya awardee Syed Nayeemuddin on Sunday was appointed the coach for the Indian football team upto the Doha Asian Games to be held next year.

Nayeemuddin replaced Sukhwinder Singh, who got the axe after recent bad performances by the national team.

AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, however, made it clear that the contribution of the new coach to the team's performance would be reviewed after the SAF Games in December.

"Indians do not lack talent. They only need to work hard along with better facilities and more money," Nayeemuddin, who has been the national coach twice before, had said in his interview before the four-member selection committee.

Regarding the removal of Sukhwinder from the post, Dasmunshi said, "I would not like to undermine the contribution of Sukhi or to blame him."

"But the outcome of the Pakistan and Fiji tours gave me a rude shock," he said.

The AIFF President further said: "fitness and conditioning of the players were also not upto the mark".

The AIFF has also appointed Atanu Bhattacharya as the goalkeeper coach for the Indian team.

India presently languishes at 134th spot in the FIFA rankings as a result of the dismal shows on the tours to Pakistan and Fiji.
